Sano Genzaemon Tsuneyo Cutting His Potted Trees to Warm Hojo Tokiyori.
During a heavy snowstorm, a traveling monk (actually Hojo Tokiyori in disguise) sought shelter at Tsuneyo’s humble home. Because they had no firewood, Tsuneyo chopped up his three most prized bonsai trees (a plum, a cherry, and a pine) to create a fire and keep his guest warm.
