A FRAMED ORIGINAL IMPERIAL AUDUBON PRINTS

John J. Audubon, The Viviparous Quadrupeds of North America, Bowen edition, Hand colored lithographs. This is John James Audubon’s last major project. Produced between 1835 and 1848. First edition volume one.

DESCRIPTION:
Original Imperial, Sciurus Carolinensis. Gmelin. Carolina Grey Squirrel. Natural size. Male and Female. The squirrels are shown in a Sycamore tree.

This lithograph was printed on paper sized at 22 x 28 inches, termed the imperial size. These prints are identified by the legend at the lower right “Lith. Printed & Cold. by J.T. Bowen, Phila.”

Period: Mid 19th century dated 1843.

Materials: Printmaking Materials, namely aquatint.

Condition: print very good condition as shown in the photographs. The paper has been archivally stabilized to conserve the original color, remounted with an acid free core, mat and UV resistant glaze. The original antique frame has been re-glued to stabilize but not refinished or retouched and shows some wear.
